The Assignment

The project was for a large telecommunications business in Australia.   Its large-scale secure system had been operating 24x7 for about 6 years. The system used clustered disk arrays and supported about 30 clients.

The brief was to lower the cost of ownership. The job included reducing the operating and maintenance costs for SUN and Cisco hardware and Oracle software. These products had all reached the end of their supported lives. The challenge was multi-faceted. The first step was to design a secure IT architecture within a definite budget. LogicalTech managed the supply, testing and migration to this new architecture without incident or interruption to the 24x7operation.

 


 

The LogicalTech Approach

LogicalTech IT24X7 and LogicalTech eXpert@ Oracle worked together to deliver the solution for this client. Complementing and supporting the client’s management team and purchasing group, the LogicalTech solution team included a senior architect, project manager and specialists. The specialists had expertise in Oracle, infrastructure operation, clustered disk technology, communications, Linux and Unix. Over a three months the design, installation and testing of the new system was completed and delivered ahead of schedule. The client support and 24x7 operation continued without interruption. Migration to the new system was completed in a two hour off-peak window. There was no effect on clients other than the substitution of a communications connection phone number.

 


 

The Value of the Solution

    The client achieved significant and targeted reduction in operating and ownership costs. LogicalTech delivered the solution early and within budget to achieve an ROI of several months for this project. Since its implementation, the system has continued with over 99% reliability for 24x7 operation. This figure has not changed despite an increased number of clients.
