"The strategic review and resulting roadmap for Parks Victoria's mobile initiatives have placed us in a much better position going forward. We now have clear mobility guidelines, a set objectives, and realistic goals to strive towards. The methodology used was simple and logical to follow and not overbearing like many other techniques that can kill an initiative by overcomplicating it. The delivered report is clear and concise with easy to follow examples and clear instructions about our next steps. The two consultants were very professional throughout the engagement and brought with them a high-level of insight and intellect. They were always courteous and patient with us and continually adjusted their approach to ensure Parks Victoria achieved the maximum possible benefit from the exercise.

I would like to thank LogicalTech for the review of our mobility strategy completed over the past two months. I, and my colleagues at Parks Victoria, look forward to continuing our relationship with LogicalTech."

The Issue

The client has been a long standing SUN enterprise customer and has made a substantial investment in large scale SUN servers. The organisation had decided to shift the architecture to a scalable commodity based hardware solution running on an Oracle Enterprise Linux platform. However, with limited internal resources and a skills gap within the existing team, they looked to LogicalTech for assistance in finding a way forward to meet their business requirements.

The Requirements

Servicing 100,000’s people annually, this high profile government agency provides critical services which rely on database availability within a tightly secured environment. This meant the solution had to deliver an architecture and infrastructure design which maximised security, integrated into the existing structures and provided a comprehensive backup and recovery solution. The solution needed to embrace a true High Availability environment, with comprehensive fault tolerance and multiple redundant data centre services. In addition, there was an inherent requirement to extend the internal skills capability of the team to permit full ownership and sustainability of the new architecture.

The Challenge

The challenge was to deliver the outcomes within a tight budget and time line, using leading edge technology which was relatively untested in Australia. The client was in a high pressure environment and LogicalTech leadership on architecture and infrastructure design was a paramount requirement in moving the project forward. Using tight project management controls and an expert team of Oracle experts, LogicalTech delivered a proof of concept solution which became the spring board for rapid implementation into the client production systems.

The Solution

Working in a highly collaborative approach, LogicalTech were able to deliver a solution which incorporated;

  • Gold Image deployment for RAC databases and servers
  • Fully automated patching, complete with patch plans and reports for patch compliance across the enterprise solution.
  • Comprehensive backup and recovery solutions covering database, operating systems and clusterware. This also included automated failover to remote data centres. Using RAC Dataguard services with Data Guard observer, the final solution provided monitoring and management of automated failover services.
  • Rollout of customised and hardened Linux servers within Oracle RAC environments.
  • Detailed technical documentation and Work Instructions to permit handover and ownership to the client of the final solution.
  • After sales service and technical support upon completion of the project and during the handover phase.

The Results

The results were a robust and secure solution which delivered all of the client’s needs including;

  • Improved High Availability
  • Reduced deployment and maintenance costs
  • Reduced Hardware costs
  • Greater Flexibility
  • Ownership and skills upgrade of internal team
