Software Integration - Simplifying Your Interface

Software integration is when several applications are combined into one easy to use system. Some software is designed to work together. Other applications that are not related can often be connected to meet the needs of your business. These function by sharing data back and forth. An integrated system is easier to use because your interface is combined into one instead of having to manage several at once. Data sharing between programs opens up possibilities in problem solving that would take extra time and brain power. Integration systems put the most used applications all in one place and present the opportunity of several applications functioning and interacting as one.

Microsoft Office or Works are integrated programs. They offer the availability to work with several types of applications like word processing, spread sheets, etc. all in the same program. Imagine if you could have those capabilities plus database management, graphics, and email all in one interface. Software integration takes separate subsystems and knits their interfaces together for one easy to use program that has all the applications you need. Instead of having several programs open and switching back and forth between them, you can integrate them into one.

Functionality increases as well as data sharing with software integration. With several applications open, you have to be the brain that makes the connections between the information. Integration takes over that step by automating those connections. The subsystems communicate with each other and eliminate the need for you to connect them on your own power. They have access to each other’s information and put it into one place for you already calculated. Integration software can be purchased that allows you to build your own set of integrated systems. Or you can custom build your integration using a system integration engineer who will develop exclusive software.

There are some difficulties with software integration. Sometimes quality of an application is below what you are used to working with. The word processing part might be great, but the spread sheets application might be below average. But if you wish to have those programs integrated, you have no other choice than to use it the way it is. Another downside to integration is the inability to upgrade all the systems separately. Once they are integrated they are one application and cannot be separated in order to fix problems or upgrade. Integrated software takes up quite a bit of memory, more than any given software package. If you don’t mind those problems, integration is a handy way to optimize your business.
